Fighting Covid on war-footing: Yogi
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the battle against the second wave of Covid was being fought on a war-footing and it was the reason why the active cases across the state were waning rapidly.
Interacting with mediapersons in Noida on Sunday, Yogi said, “Our plans are ready to deal with a possible third wave of Covid and we are working with utmost care. Directives have been issued to form dedicated ICUs to counter the possible third wave, especially in community health centres, district hospitals and medical colleges for women and children.”
Admitting that the viral infection has infiltrated into the rural areas of the state, the CM said that the need of the hour is to prevent the infection from spreading further. “A strategy for tracing, testing and treatment has been prepared for this. If the infected person is identified early and treatment begins promptly, the case will not be critical. We are giving the health teams medical and antigen test kits. Even though the RT-PCR test report comes later, treatment is started,” he said.
Yogi said that 2.50 lakh people were being tested daily on an average. “Over 45 million tests have been conducted so far. In the first wave of corona last year, we effectively controlled the crisis by making Team-11 while in the second wave, the responsibility of everyone has been fixed by forming Team-9. This is why only about 10,000 positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours,” he said.
On vaccination, the chief minister said that around 1.50 crore people across the state had been administered the jabs and the focus was now on villages. “I have directed that vaccination should be carried out in the common service area in villages so that local residents can get themselves registered and then vaccinated without having to travel far,” he said.
Referring to the Covid crisis in Noida, Yogi said that while there were more than 10,000 cases on April 27, there were less than 400 cases on Sunday. The number of active cases in the state has come down to 1.63 lakh in the last 24 hours.
