Farah Khan says one year of YouTube earnings went into paying cook Dilip’s ‘massive’ debt, has put his son through culinary school | Bollywood News

Farah Khan and her cook Dilip’s vlogs on her channel got popular as soon as she started posting them and after a year and a half, the channel has almost 2.5 million subscribers. In a recent interview, Farah shared that she was doing her vlogs herself initially, but soon brought Dilip in, and that changed the game for them as they got their YouTube silver button (for 100,000 subscribers) just after the second video. Farah shared that while Dilip was being paid well before as well, his life and earnings have significantly changed since his YouTube career took off.
In a chat with Soha Ali Khan on her YouTube channel, Farah said that since she had some time to spare before starting her next film, she decided to make a few videos on YouTube, and decided that she would do some food content, as her food reels would often go viral on Instagram. After the first video, Farah said she realised that she has to do all the prepping of the food, along with engaging the audience in a monologue, and so she decided to bring her cook Dilip in. “I used to just tell him, ‘Tu yeh bol de’. I would give him the punchline and it just kind of exploded. the second vlog, we had our silver button,” she said.
Talking about Dilip, she said that he is doing very well now and added, “I send his kids to English medium school now. I put his one son through a culinary diploma course.” She shared that Dilip had a lot of debt on him, and it took them one year to get rid of that. “He had a lot of debt. I don’t know how. One year has just gone in paying off that debt and telling him, ‘You can’t take loans on interest anymore because whatever I am giving you is going down a well’. So I have cleared all his debts. So now I have told him… Now he is building his house. I am trying to get many brands involved so the house can be done for free,” she shared.

Farah said that she has a lot of freedom in building her content on YouTube as there is no giving her any directions as to who should be invited, and what content should be kept in the video. “It’s my channel so I can do what I want. There’s no OTT channel or no production house saying that we will have to cut this. And there is no TV channel saying you can only bring this guest on, which I used to hate. I used to hate that this one is an A-ler and this one is tacky,” she said.
Farah shared that she has complete independence in building her channel which has helped her make more money than most of her films.
