The Supreme Court today allowed the Delhi government to amend its petition to challenge a law recently approved by Parliament regarding the control of services in the nation’s capital.
The High Court took note of the comment by Senior Counsel Abhishek Singhvi, representing the Delhi government, that the previous challenge against the decree has now become law after being authorized by Parliament.
A court headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud allowed the petition to be amended and the Center said there were no objections. The court gave the Center four weeks to respond to the revised plea. Parliament recently passed the Delhi National Capital Territory Government Bill 2023, also known as the Delhi Services Bill, paving the way for the Center Bill. appointing and transferring officials to the country’s capital, despite fierce debate in the House of Commons and efforts by the opposition to shut it down.
Previously, complaints against the Service Ordinance were submitted to a constitutional panel of five judges. The law removed control of city government services and sparked a new struggle between the two centers of power.
