Neeraj Chopra will headline India’s athletics contingent at the Hangzhou Asian Games. Chopra is one of the most anticipated athletes to compete in the event. The Olympic gold medal and world champion in the men’s javelin throw is expected to be a strong contender for gold in Hangzhou, China.
On whether he can reach the 90m mark, Chopra, while speaking to the media on Saturday, said, “I am very close to it. I want to hit that throw myself. I believe in the process. Whenever it will happen, it will happen. I am not in a hurry. I am happy with my consent performances, this is my main focus.”
“It is not about being consent in throw, but also in training. Keep training well and work on your technique. This leads to improvement. Last year, I made two national records, it was nice. After arriving for the event, the Indian star has been in a happy mood. “I always feel nice at the games. There’s an energetic atmosphere at the venue. We meet other athletes belonging to other Sports. There is always a positive in this event, like the Asian games. It has been raining over the past few days, but hopefully, it will improve in the next period,” he said.
However, Chopra also admitted that this year has been a big challenge for him since he was down with a groin injury earlier in the year. After recovery, he is more focussed on getting the basics right and especially the first throw in a competiton. “In the previous World Championships, I was not able to get good throws and even this year, I committed a foul. One should keep himself motivated till the last throw because the game can change anytime,” he said.
Chopra is one of the most exciting athletes to watch at the 2023 Asian Games. He is in excellent form, and he is the clear favorite to win gold in the men’s javelin throw. It will be interesting to see if he can break his own world record in Hangzhou.
