Russian missile strike kills 5 in southeast Ukraine | World News

At least five people were killed and more than 20 injured after a Russian missile strike hit the southeastern Ukrainian city of Samar on Friday, Ukrainian officials said, according to Reuters. It was the second such attack on the city in three days.
Regional governor Serhiy Lysak said on Telegram that four of those injured were in serious condition and had been taken to hospital. He did not give further details about the damage caused the latest strike. Earlier this week, a separate attack on a facility in the same city had killed two people.
In the south of the country, officials in the Kherson region warned of long power cuts after a Russian attack damaged an important energy site.

“Russians decided to plunge the region into darkness,” Kherson governor Oleksandr Prokudin said in a message on Telegram, as quoted Reuters.
The attacks come as Russia increases strikes on Ukrainian cities more than three years into its full-scale invasion. The capital, Kyiv, and other major areas have seen a rise in aerial attacks in recent weeks.
Ukraine’s air force said Russia had launched 363 long-range drones and eight missiles overnight on Friday. The drones and missiles targeted the western city of Starokostiantyniv, which is home to a key air base. Authorities have not yet released details about damage caused there.
