IPL 2024 Retentions: Kolkata Knight Riders release Shardul Thakur, Delhi Capitals to retain Prithvi Shaw | Cricket News

With less than 24 hours left in the IPL 2024 Retentions deadline, The Indian Express has learned that Kolkata Knight Riders have released Shardul Thakur one season after acquiring the bowling all-rounder as the most expensive trade buy in IPL hory – INR 10.75 Cr. Also, Delhi Capitals have decided to retain swashbuckling opener Prithvi Shaw.
Thakur, who was part of the Chennai Super Kings squad between 2018 to 2021 before he moved to Delhi Capitals for a season, had a dismal season with KKR in 2023 where he scored only 113 runs with the bat from 11 innings and struck only seven times with the ball.
The two-time IPL winner with CSK was unable to inspire KKR – who clinched the league in 2012 and 2014 – to reach the playoffs as they slumped in the bottom half of the 10-team points table with only six games from 14 matches.
In other news, Delhi Capitals have decided to retain Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw, who’s currently recuperating from a knee injury he picked up during his county championship stint with Northamptonshire.
Shaw, who started of his IPL journey with Delhi, has coped scrutiny for his recent exploits with the bat – having scored only 106 runs from his eight outings for the franchise last season.

The Mumbai opener had managed to score a double century and a hundred for Northamptonshire before he was ruled out of injury from a maiden county stint.
Thereafter, Shaw has missed out on the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy owing to his recovery.
