Voting in New York mayor election
Trump’s comments come as voting is underway in the New York mayoral election, where Mamdani, a self-declared Democratic Social, is pitted against former Democratic Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an Independent and Republican nominee, Curtis Sliwa.

Trump endorses Cuomo
Trump on Monday endorsed Cuomo, while calling him a ‘bad Democrat’ and referring to Mamdani as a ‘Commun’.
“If Commun Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home, because of the fact that, as a Commun, this once great City has ZERO chance of success, or even survival,” Trump said.
“A vote for Curtis Sliwa (who looks much better without the beret!) is a vote for Mamdani. Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not,” the US President continued.

Mamdani’s stands on Israel under spotlight
Throughout the election campaign, Mamdani, a practicing Shia Muslim who was born to an Indian-origin Hindu mother and a Muslim father, has come under attack for his stands on Israel.
In the Mayoral election debate in October, Mamdani was asked whether he believed in a Jewish State of Israel, to which the 34-year-old replied that Israel has a right to ex “as a state with equal rights,” but not specifically as a “Jewish state.”
Mamdani has also repeatedly said that he would arrest Benjamin Netanyahu, who has an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant against him, if the Israeli prime miner ever travelled to New York.
