PM Narendra Modi’s wife Jashodaben injured in car accident

Jashodaben, the wife of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was injured in a car accident on Wednesday morning in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh district. One of her relatives, identified as Basantbhai Modi, died in the accident, for which a truck driver has been detained.

According to the police, the accident took place at around 10 am on Wednesday near Katunda area in Chittorgarh district.

“Jashodaben along with her relatives were returning to Gujarat after attending a wedding in Baran district of Rajasthan when the accident happened. One person died while the others sustained minor injuries,” said Shyam Singh, Station House Officer, Parsoli police station, Chittorgarh.

The police said that six people were travelling in the SUV that was badly damaged in the impact of the accident. “Preliminary investigation suggests that the car was behind a truck which was being driven recklessly. Suddenly the truck driver steered the vehicle to the side which resulted in SUV colliding with the back of the truck,” said Rakesh Rajora, circle officer, Begun.

“There were six people in the car including the driver and as a result of the impact of the accident they sustained injuries. Preliminary investigation suggests that the deceased, Basantbhai Modi is a cousin of Jashodaben,” said Rajora.

He added that a case has been registered and the truck driver has been detained.

A case under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of IPC. Police said that the truck was going from Jamshedpur to Ahmedabad with a consignment of iron pipes.

“The detained truck driver has been identified as Pooran Yadav, a resident of Hazaribag in Jharkhand,” said constable Rama Ram from Parsoli police station, Chittorgarh. The police said that Jashodaben and the other injured persons have been sent Chittorgarh district headquarters for further treatment.

“As of now, her injuries don’t appear to be serious,” said Rajora.
