Most sixes in an IPL season: Shreyas Iyer on the cusp of breaking Indian record in RCB vs PBKS IPL 2025 final | Ipl News

The IPL 2025 season has carried the trend from the previous edition in the league becoming the home of six-hitting. While 1260 maximums were smoked last year, the tally has risen to 1271 this edition, ahead of the final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
Several big-hitting superstars have, over the years, notched up massive six-hitting streaks that have lit up the tournament. Chris Gayle, the highest six-hitter in the hory of the IPL, remains on top of the charts even as newer power-hitters have emerged on the scene in recent years.
Gayle remains the only batter to smash 50 sixes in a season twice, achieving the feat with RCB in successive years in 2012 and 2013. West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell is the only other batter to slam 50 sixes in a year, achieving it with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2019.

Among Indian batters, Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma surpassed Virat Kohli’s tally of 38 sixes from 2016 during the 2024 edition. Abhishek walloped 42 sixes in 16 appearances during his team’s run to the final. However, the southpaw’s record is under threat as Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer is on the cusp of matching or overtaking him during the IPL 2025 final. Banking on his best six-hitting season in the league, Iyer has racked up 39 maximums in 16 games this edition. Iyer’s strike rate of 175.80 is also the highest among all six batters to have aggregated at least 600 runs in IPL 2025. Iyer is also only one short of Nicholas Pooran’s 40 maximums, the highest any batter this IPL season.
