Priyanka discusses poll strategy with UP leaders likely to tour state from July 14

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is likely to visit Uttar Pradesh from coming Wednesday, held a virtual meeting with party’s state leaders on Monday to chalk out a strategy for the coming Assembly elections. During the virtual meeting with UP senior leaders, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra discussed the party’s strategy regarding the upcoming Assembly elections and blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party for the violence in the recently-concluded block pramukh elections.

“Incidents of violence took place in Uttar Pradesh during the panchayat elections. The BJP workers used stones and bullets,” said Priyanka Gandhi Vadra during the UP Congress advisory council and strategic group meeting on Monday. She directed the party leaders to take on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government on issues related to unemployment, price rise and law and order etc.

The meeting comes a day after the senior Congress leader held a meeting with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel amid reports that he was expecting to play a crucial role in the preparations of the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh. The meeting involved leaders from the party’s state advisory council and the working group on strategy and planning. Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu, senior party leaders Salman Khurshid, Rajiv Shukla, Pramod Tiwari, PL Punia and Rashid Alvi were among others who participated in the virtual meeting.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reportedly said in the meeting that the people were troubled by soaring inflation and sky high prices of petrol, diesel, mustard oil, fruits and vegetables. She said that farmers were suffering because their cost of production had gone up but their income had decreased.

She also raised the issue of violence during the panchayat elections while alleging that the BJP workers indulged in stone-pelting and firing.

Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will visit Lucknow on July 14 to intensify the party’s preparations for ‘Mission UP’ with an eye on the 2022 Assembly polls.

Earlier a suggestion was made at the meeting by several senior Uttar Pradesh leaders that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra should come over to Lucknow and start residing here and that small meetings should be addressed by state leaders from time to time to keep her updated about the issues concerning the state.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has not been much active in UP but she has been continuously raising the real issues and has kept giving suggestions to the government by writing letters to the chief minister.
