Priyanka hits out at UP govt over failure to increase cane MSP
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slammed the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh, alleging that it had not raised the price of sugarcane for the last three years.
Her remark came a few hours after the Congress-led Punjab government accepted the demand of cane farmers and raised the minimum support price. Priyanka has been critical of the Yogi government over several issues in recent months.
“The Congress government in Punjab listened to the farmers’ problems and raised the price of sugarcane to Rs 360 per quintal. The Bharatiya Janata Party government in Uttar Pradesh, which came with a promise of Rs 400 per quintal price for sugarcane, has not raised a single penny on the price of sugarcane for three years. What is more, the government threatens to ‘see them’ if the farmers raise their voices,” tweeted the Congress leader on Wednesday.
Farmers on Tuesday evening vacated the railway tracks and highways in Punjab after the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government accepted the demands of the cane farmers. Pressing for their demands, farmers in Punjab had blocked national highways and railway tracks in Jalandhar since August 19.
