The Punjab Congress on Saturday expelled Abohar MLA Sandeep Jakhar from the party for his alleged involvement in “anti-party activities”. The case against Jakhar was initiated following a complaint by Punjab Congress leader Amrinder Singh Raja Warring.
Mr. Jakhar is the nephew of Punjab BJP leader Sunil Jakhar, who quit the Congress last year.
The Punjab Congress released a statement on X saying, “Sandeep Jakhar has been expelled from the party with immediate effect.” According to the party’s statement to Mr. Jakhar, Congress general secretary Tariq Anwar said that “you have not participated in any party program including Bharat Jodo Yatra” and also “the house where you live is a shared residence with a BJP flag .” The communication also affirmed Jakhar’s public rebellion against the parties. You spoke against the party and the PCC president and also publicly defended your uncle Sunil Jakhar.
After deep consideration, the DAC (Disciplinary Committee) has decided to suspend you from the party with immediate effect,” wrote DAC member Anwar.
Mr Jakhar, a first-time MLA, and Mr Warring have previously engaged in a war of words. Mr Warring once dared Jakhar to resign from Congress and get a new mandate “when he was so sure of their support in Abohar”. Sandeep Jakhar then challenged Warring to throw him out of his suit, giving him a warning.
