Respect the people of Tamil Nadu, but…”: Mamata Banerjee on Sanatana remarks

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today lashed out at Tamil Nadu minister Udhyanidhi Stalin for his ‘Sanatana Dharma’ remarks that have caused a political storm ahead of several elections in the state and led to several setbacks for the BJP. It also seems to put the opposition bloc INDIA in a dilemma and required the diplomatic skills of the leaders to maintain unity.
Banerjee, who remained silent for a day, spoke on the issue after the Congress’s comment.
The Trinamool Congress leader, who recited scriptures ahead of the referendum amid accusations of the BJP appeasing minorities, said: “We should not get involved in anything that could hurt a certain section of people.”
Regarding (Udhayanidhi Stalin’s) remarks, he is a youth. For my part, I do not understand why and on what basis he commented. I think every religion should be respected equally,” Banerjee said this evening, hours after her party spokesperson called the comments “unfortunate”.
“I respect the people of Tamil Nadu and South India. But my humble request to them is to respect everyone because every religion has its own sentiments,” Banerjee said.
