The CEO of United stated that “tour fixtures drive significant additional revenue.”

Manchester United players will head to Asia right after their final Premier League match as the beleaguered club tries to raise revenue. Manchester United will play in exhibition games in Kuala Lumpur on May 28 and Hong Kong on May 30, right after playing their last home game of the season against Aston Villa on May 25. What could make matters even more strenuous for Manchester United players is the fact that the club could find itself playing in the Europa League final, which will be held on May 21.
Manchester United have also confirmed that the team will play preseason friendlies in Scandinavia and the United States.
This measure comes as the club has told its fans that it cannot sustain its current financial losses after losing more than 300 million pounds over the past three years. The club has also come under criticism from its own fan base for raising ticket prices.

The 20-time English champions, who are co-owned the American Glazer family and British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, had also been criticised recently for their cost-saving initiatives, which included hundreds of staff redundancies. The club had chosen to close the staff canteen at Old Trafford and replaced the free lunches with fruit.
Manchester United officials were quoted as saying The Associated Press that the tour provides “a unique opportunity for the players and staff to connect directly with fans in Asia, and for the club to activate with its valued commercial partners in the region.”
“Importantly, tour fixtures drive significant additional revenue which help make the club stronger, allowing us to keep investing in success on the pitch,” Manchester United CEO Omar Berrada said.
