UP govt to withdraw 5,000 cases against party workers

The Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is believed to have moved a proposal to withdraw around 5,000 cases registered against the party workers during the previous governments of Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party in the state.

The decision was taken after a meeting of BJP national general secretary (organisation) BL Santhosh, state incharge Radha Mohan Singh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other ministers, according to media reports.

All these cases, which the BJP is now terming false and politically motivated, were filed over the years during the SP and BSP regimes.

In view of the upcoming assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath government is expected to withdraw these cases.

However, Law Minister Brajesh Pathak said that the government has already withdrawn cases against BJP workers lodged in a false manner during the SP and BSP regimes.

“The news is nothing new and the government has already withdrawn the cases,” he claimed.
