US President Donald Trump has said that “tremendous progress” has been made over the past week with respect to ending the nearly four year war between Russia and Ukraine and informed that the original 28-point peace plan, sponsored America to end the conflict, “has been fine-tuned, with additional input from both sides”.
The 28-point peace plan proposal was presented to Kyiv Washington last week, and the American and Ukrainian officials worked on it over the weekend during talks in Geneva. President Trump informed on social media that he has asked Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to visit Moscow and meet Russian President Vladimir Putin and Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll to meet Ukrainians at the same time.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Over the past week, my team has made tremendous progress with respect to ending the War between Russia and Ukraine. The original 28-Point Peace Plan, which was drafted the United States, has been fine-tuned, with additional input from both sides, and there are only a few remaining points of disagreement.”
Ukraine, on the other hand, signalled that a “common understanding” has been reached with the United States on a potential peace deal to end the war with Russia. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged the European leaders in a speech on Tuesday to chart out a plan to deploy “reassurance force” in Ukraine and to back Kyiv till Moscow shows no inclination to end the war.
“We firmly believe security decisions about Ukraine must include Ukraine, security decisions about Europe must include Europe. That framework is on the table, and we’re ready to move forward together – with the USA, with the personal engagement of President Trump,” Zelenskyy said.
Trump also informed that he would be meeting Putin and Zelenskyy but added that it will “only happen when the deal to end this war is final or in its final stages.” A Ukrainian official, however, warned that territorial concessions still remained a major sticking point in the peace plan, Reuters reported.
