CM for dyke walls to recharge ground water

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday called for rapid construction of dyke walls in the fractured areas of rivers and rivulets for recharging ground water level.

The structures constructed under the ‘Narva Development Scheme’ will make water available for irrigation and for fauna in forest areas, he said.

Baghel was holding a review meeting of the Forest and Climate Change Department here. He called for plantation of mulberry to increase ‘Kosa’ (cocoon) production, an official communication said.

He said construction of water conservation structures are being undertaken under ‘Narva Development Scheme.

Similarly, bamboo plantation in forests should be undertaken using high-quality tissue culture plants, he said.

The Chief Minister said that with developments of gauthans across the state, there is need for green fodder for the whole year. Sections of forests can be developed for fodder by imparting training to forest dwellers and women self-help groups.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel released the guidelines and brochure for the Chief Minister’s Tree Plantation Promotion Scheme, for planting commercial timber and medicinal plants.
