Yogi to lead BJP in UP elections
After crediting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the party’s victory in recently-concluded panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh, the party brass has anointed Yogi to be the face of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2022 UP Assembly elections.
The BJP will campaign under his leadership and a meeting of UP BJP office-bearers has been called on July 15 to discuss this strategy which will be followed by a meeting of the state executive committee the next day that will be addressed by BJP president JP Nadda.
The two meetings will discuss the poll strategy as the BJP intends to step up focus on the 2022 Assembly election after the conclusion of panchayat elections, starting with chalking out a plan to ascertain booth level strength of the organisation and verify its activeness and representation on ground.
On Thursday, a meeting of BJP office-bearers will be held at the party’s state headquarters in Lucknow and it will be attended by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, UP in-charge Radha Mohan Singh, state BJP office-bearers and heads of frontal outfits.
“This meeting will set the agenda for the more important working committee meet the next day, which will be inaugurated virtually by BJP chief JP Nadda and see the virtual attendance of district-wise members of the committee in addition to key functionaries of the state BJP,” said state BJP general secretary JPS Rathore.
Rathore said, “We need to first strengthen the organisation, starting from booth level. If there are 21 members of a booth committee, we need to first verify if all of them are active. For this, both telephonic and physical verifications will be done by functionaries on zonal levels which will automatically verify the activeness at booth level as well as at these senior levels. This is important as the success of the pre-election campaign, which will see programmes being held to highlight the government’s works at constituency level, and it will depend on these booth workers. We want to see that our booth level organisation is ‘sarva sparshi, sarva vyaapi’ (reaches out to all the people everywhere).”
The last state working committee meeting was held in March, when Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had flown to Lucknow. A senior BJP functionary said that with the party currently in ‘preparation mode’, the priority right now was to strengthen and verify the existence and activeness of the organisational structure at booth level and ascertain how well-oiled the organisational machinery was.
