Chhattisgarh CM Baghel Writes to PM Modi with Two Requests
Raipur: Recently, Mr Bhupesh Baghel, the Chief Miner of Chhattisgarh, reached out to Prime Miner Narendra Modi with a written appeal that focused on two requests. Firstly, he requested the implementation of a census that includes a code for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs). Secondly, he advocated for moving the headquarters of the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) from Hyderabad to Jagdalpur in order to boost employment opportunities.
In his letter, Baghel emphasized the urgency of addressing OBC reservations. Stressed the need for action on this important and sensitive matter. He highlighted that granting reservation benefits to horically marginalized populations without socio rights is crucial in upholding equality and social justice as enshrined in our Constitution.
Furthermore, Baghel reminded the Prime Miner about his proposal in April 2023 for a 27 percent reservation quota for Chhattisgarh’s OBC population. He also suggested incorporating this subject into the Schedule of the Constitution.
He stressed the importance of this reservation emphasizing that it is crucial to extend reservation benefits to a portion of our society that has been deprived of socio-rights for many centuries. Such steps align closely with the principles of equality and social justice that our Constitution strongly supports.
Baghels letter highlights the pressing need to address these issues and expects measures from the government.
