Akhilesh: Unnao rape victim’s family living in constant fear

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav met Governor Anandiben Patel on Wednesday and submitted two memorandums about the rape victim of Unnao.

He also submitted a memorandum alleging persecution of party MP Mohammad Azam Khan by Rampur district administration.

Akhilesh Yadav said that Unnao rape victim’s family was living in constant fear and they had lost faith in UP Police and administration after the series of attacks and threats at the behest of jailed rape accused and Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

On Sunday, the rape victim was seriously injured while two of her kin were killed in a road accident on Unnao-Rae Bareli road and she is presently fighting for her life at the KGMU Trauma Centre in Lucknow.

The SP chief told the Governor that the victim’s family wanted justice and he hoped that the UP government would do its best to ensure that.

On Wednesday, Akhilesh once again visited the KGMU Trauma Centre and met the rape victim’s family members. He handed them a cheque of Rs 10 lakh and of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the victim’s advocate who is also convalescing at the KGMU Trauma Centre.

Targeting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the SP chief said that the family of the rape victim had no faith in the state government.

“The Chief Minister is aware of the whole incident yet justice eludes the rape victim’s family which is a regrettable situation. The accident occurred on Sunday, when Union Home Minister Amit Shah was present in Lucknow,” the SP chief said.

Akhilesh charged that jailed MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar was behind Sunday’s road accident in which the rape victim and her lawyer were seriously injured and two of her aunts were killed.

He demanded that Sengar be shifted to a jail outside the state.
