Ajeeb daastaan hai yeh: Priyanka Gandhi takes dig at Amit Shah’s ‘don’t venture out’ remark over CAA protests
Rae Bareli: Politics over the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act continues as Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took a swipe at Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday over the latter’s ‘don’t venture out’ challenge to Uttar Pradesh leaders.
The Union Home Minister had earlier warned his opponents, presumably former UP chief ministers Mayawati (Bahujan Samaj Party) and Akhilesh Yadav (Samajwadi Party), by saying that whatever happens, CAA will not be rolled back.
The Gandhi scion retorted by saying that the BJP leader was challenging “those who did not come out of their houses”. She made the remarks during a two-day visit to Rae Bareli with her mother and interim Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.
“Ajeeb daastaan hai yeh, kahan shuru kahan khatam (It’s strange, don’t know where it started and where it ended). Shah challenged those (Mayawati and Yadav) who have not come out of their homes to protest (in Uttar Pradesh). Those who are supposed to challenge the Home Minister are raising issues of other states. The people of Uttar Pradesh understand everything,” Priyanka said in a post on social media platform Twitter.
The Congress leader was clearly mocking Mayawati and Yadav for not participating in ant-CAA-NRC (National Register of Citizens) protests across Uttar Pradesh.
Shah, during a rally in Lucknow on Tuesday, had said, “I would like to say this very loud and clear to our opponents – the new citizenship law won’t be rolled back at any cost, irrespective of the protests.”
