Elderly man dies in Mahasamund after taking Covid shot
A 62-year-old man on Friday died in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district, within 24 hours after receiving the Covid vaccine shot, the Health Department said.
The department officials said the exact cause of death will be ascertained only after the post-mortem report was received.
Vibhishan Banjare (62) was administered Covid vaccine on Thursday evening around 5 pm and he was put under observation for half hour. His condition was fine then, Chief Medical Officer of Mahasamund Dr Kishore Mandape said.
After he went home, the spot where he got the vaccine shot was swollen, Dr Mandape said.
The man developed other physical complications and was rushed to the government hospital at Pithora from where he was referred to the government hospital Basna on Friday morning.
On reaching Basna, doctors declared him brought dead.
After post-mortem on Friday, his viscera sample was sent to Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, said Dr Arvind Gupta, a member of the state level Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI) committee.
Dr Mandape said if the death was due to vaccine, then others who got the shots should have developed similar problems.
