Australian MP lauds Yogi’s handling of Covid situation
Australia’s Federal independent Member of Parliament Craig Kelly praised the state of Uttar Pradesh for successfully ‘smashing’ the ‘scary’ Delta variant of novel coronavirus with the use of Ivermectin.
In a tweet, the Australian MP said that the state of Uttar Pradesh with a population of 23 crore curbed the second wave of COVID-19 by using Ivermectin tablet as a result of which the daily case count in the state came down to just 182, while the United Kingdom, with a population of merely 6.7 crore, rejected the medicine and had around 20,479 cases as on date.
Kelly’s tweet praised Yogi Adityanath’s handling of the Covid situation as, “Indian state of Uttar Pradesh Pop: 230 million Smashed the ‘scary’ Delta variant with Ivermectin. Today’s new daily cases in UP : 182. UK Pop: 67 million. Rejected Ivermectin, worshipped the vaccine. Today’s new daily case: 20,479.”
To treat the patients infected with the novel coronavirus, the UP Health department prescribed the use of Ivermectin, a medicine to treat parasitic ailments, along with Doxycycline as a protocol across the state for both prophylactic as well as treatment purposes. It is noteworthy that Uttar Pradesh is the first state in the country to introduce large-scale prophylactic and therapeutic use of Ivermectin.
The key elements of the ‘UP Covid Model’ such as contact tracing, early detection, isolation and free and timely provision of medicine kits and treatment to the rural populace also won laurels from several expert bodies such as World Health Organisation (WHO) and NITI Aayog, the latter asking other states to replicate the mechanism.
