Maize to be procured at MSP in kharif-rabi seasons: Baghel

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday announced that maize will be procured at minimum support price (MSP) from farmers during the kharif and rabi seasons. He also called for ethanol producing plants in major maize and sugarcane areas.

The Chief Minister was holding a review meeting of the Food and Civil Supplies Department here, states an official communication.

The present arrangement of maize procurement is limited to select primary committees. The maize thus procured was being used for poultry and cattle feed. Now on it will be bought at all committees.

Baghel called for reviving the Raigarh-based Jute Mill which is non-operational. He said in the last kharif season, there was a shortage of jute sacks due to inadequate supply. Officials should ensure adequate stock of jute sacks before the procurement season begins.

The Rajiv Gandhi Kisaan Nyay Yojana will now cover maize, sugarcane, minor millets (kodo-kutki), soyabean, pulses and oilseed crops, he said.

Baghel laid emphasis to promote use of vermicompost and super compost prepared at the guathans after highlighting the shortage of supply of chemical fertilizers.
