BJP welcomes action against CM’s father

Chhattisgarh BJP President Vishnudeo Sai on Tuesday hailed the jailing of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s father Nand Kumar Baghel over a hate speech, saying it will help foster social and religious harmony.

Police arrested the senior Baghel and a court sent him to 14 days in judicial custody after a FIR was filed against him for making comments against the Brahmin community. The Chief Minister’s 86-year-old father refused to seek bail.

Sai said in a statement that had the Chief Minister initiated action earlier, such a situation could have been averted today.

Finally, the anger of the community led to the latest action, he said.
