Hijab row: Bigotry is dangerous for society, says Baghel
Raipur: Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Saturday cautioned that bigotry in any form or by any group is detrimental to the society as a whole saying that those triggering such trouble are unaware of its consequences.
“The issue should have been resolved through talks between both the communities but it is now becoming a national issue, he said while replying to a question about the ongoing Hijab row in Karnataka. The chief minister was talking to the media at the Swami Vivekananda airport here before leaving for the election campaign in Uttar Pradesh.
“Our country is a place which has given shelter to people persecuted in other countries. But see the present situation of our own people”, said adding that “it’s a sensitive issue which needs to be resolved very fast as it is detrimental to the society as a whole. He said there are family and social issues which needs to be resolved through mutual talks as taking every issue to court would only result in further escalating the matter.
“In which direction we are going? Like this, we will continue to fight forever”, he added. Replying to a question about opposition BJP allegation that the Congress government was dithering on its poll promise to impose liquor prohibition, the chief minister said the decisions in scheduled areas have to be taken after discussion at the gram sabha or village council. He pointed out that the congress in its manifesto had specifically mentioned that such decisions will be taken in consultation with the gram sabhas in the scheduled areas.
