Akhilesh slams UP govt over law and order

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav lashed out at the Yogi Adityanath government, accusing it of being lax in maintenance of law and order in the state.

“The law and order situation is in doldrums as the police itself are engaging in crime. In Mau, a gram pradhan was killed in daylight while a youth was killed in a police station of a district after being falsely set up,” he alleged.

“I have one advice for the Yogi government — beef up law and order situation,” Akhilesh said.

Earlier, the SP chief paid his respects to the first Chief Minister of UP, Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, on his 132nd birth anniversary.

“The 132nd birth anniversary of UP’s first chief minister is being observed today. On one hand, he was a freedom fighter, while on the other, he was a great visionary for development of India,” he said.

On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mathura on Wednesday, Akhilesh said, “The Yogi government has done nothing for the development of Mathura in the last two years and development projects and schemes launched during Samajwadi Party regime have been wound up.”

“During the SP regime, foundation stone of Chandrodaya temple was laid in Mathura by then President Pranab Mukherjee. But it fell victim to the haphazard implementation of Goods and Services Tax,” Akhilesh said.

Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party of launching one scheme after another for publicity only, the SP chief said, “First they came up with a sanitation scheme in which top BJP leaders swept roads with broom, then they claimed that millions of toilets were constructed but all are without water. Now they have launched a campaign against the use of single use plastic.”

Earlier, scheduled to visit Rampur on September 8, Akhilesh will now go there on a three-day visit on September 13.

Akhilesh had alleged that the Yogi government had stopped him from going to Rampur, forcing him to postpone his visit. During his visit, Akhilesh would stay at Humsafar resort owned by SP leader Mohammad Azam Khan.

UP Power Corporation had raided the resort last month and detected power theft. Beside lodging an FIR against the resort owner and Khan’s wife and Rajya Sabha member Tazeen Fatma, the administration also imposed a penalty of Rs 30 lakh.
