Annoyed over Minister’s replies, BJP members walk out

Annoyed over the replies of the Labour Minister on Thursday, BJP members walked out two times in protest during Question Hour on the fourth day of the Budget session of the Chhattisgarh assembly.

BJP MLA from Raipur South Brijmohan Agrawal sought details of equipment and materials distributed to registered construction workers through the Chhattisgarh State Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board.

Alleging irregularities in schemes, he sought details of the beneficiaries from 2019 to 2022. He said the state government had not released the amount to the workers, which he insisted was a critical matter.

Labour Minister Dr Shiv Kumar Dahariya said over 200,000 workers were registered with the Board. He accepted that due to Covid-19, the order to stop the discretionary sanction was taken. So, till date no benefits have been extended.

With BJP MLAs seeking more details through supplementary questions, the Minister faltered. The BJP members then created a ruckus and trooped out.

Asking another question, Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik demanded to know why the Congress Jagdalpur corporator was still in hospital even after filing an FIR against her.

He pointed out that corporator of Sanjay Gandhi Ward (No.34) Komal Sena was booked for taking a bribe of Rs 25,000 from 41 slum residents with assurance to allot houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).

In his reply, Dr Dahariya said a committee chaired by the Bastar Additional Collector was set up on February 16, 2022 to investigate the matter. An FIR was registered against the corporator. Necessary action was underway, he added.

That answer too led to a ruckus, triggering another walkout by BJP members.
