BJP demands paddy procurement from Nov 1

The BJP on Monday demanded that procurement of paddy should start in Chhattisgarh from November 1.

The party said that last year the procurement was delayed and the period shortened due to which farmers could not sell their produce on minimum support price.

The Central government has in principle approved the proposal of the state government and hiked the rice procurement from the state to 61.65 lakh tonnes, state BJP President Vishnudeo Sai said in a statement.

He urged the government to make arrangements to reduce the shortage of gunny bags.
