Blast in residential area kills 1, injures 3 in Raipur

RAIPUR: A high intensity blast that occurred at a house in Amlidih in the city killed one and injured three on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as 35-year-old Dhanush Ratre while the injured were his wife Savita Ratre, 32, his father Rohbit Ratre, 55, and sister-in-law Lata Jangade, 30.It is yet to be ascertained as to what triggered the blast but it is suspected that some inflammable chemical kept in plastic drums inside the house might have caused the explosion. According to additional superintendent of police (ASP), city, Vijay Agarwal, the initial blast occurred inside the chemical barrel at the residence of one one Manoj Gwalani, which in turn led to a bigger explosion inside the house. The intensity of the blast was powerful enough to send shock waves across a radius of 4 to 5 kms of distance and hence a lot of neighbours came rushing to the spot. The injured were immediately rushed to a private hospital, while Dhanush died on the way. His wife Savita is reportedly in a very critical state, added ASP Agrawal.

Police and a FSL team visited the spot for inspection and collected samples of chemicals to ascertain what triggered the blast. Police have registered case under relevant section and the further investigation is underway.
