BSF trooper shoots self, dies

A Border Security Force (BSF) trooper committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district, police said on Wednesday.

Constable Lakshman N.G. (30), belonging to the BSF’s 81st Battalion, on Tuesday shot himself with the Insas rifle at a camp in Karkpa village, Kanker Superintendent of Police Shalabh Kumar Sinha said.

After hearing the gunshots, his colleagues rushed to the spot and rushed him to a primary health centre.

He was later flown to Raipur in a BSF helicopter and admitted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday night, the officer added.

The constable, from Karnataka, had returned to duty on July 7 after over a month-long leave.

No suicide note was found and the exact reason for the shooting is not yet known.
