Bypolls: Yogi to campaign in 3 west UP dists today

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will kick off the Bharatiya Janata Party’s poll campaign in western Uttar Pradesh by holding three rallies in as many constituencies on Friday.

BJP state spokesman Himanshu Dubey said that Yogi Adityanath would address rallies in Aligarh, Rampur and Saharanpur on Friday.

The first rally will be held to seek votes for BJP candidate from Iglas constituency in Aligarh, Ramkumar, in Godha. The next rally will be in Ajitpur Industrial Area of Rampur from where BJP has fielded Bharat Bhushan Gupta. The last rally of the day will be held at GIC Nanauta grounds in Saharanpur from where the BJP has fielded Kirat Singh.

In the last few days, the Chief Minister has addressed rallies mainly in eastern UP constituencies Pratapgarh, Bahraich and Mau.

By-elections are being held to Gangoh (Saharanpur), Govind Nagar (Kanpur), Iglas (Aligarh), Manikpur (Chitrakoot), Zaidpur (Barabanki), Jalalpur (Ambedkar Nagar), Balha (Bahraich), Ghosi (Mau), Lucknow Cantonment (Lucknow), Rampur and Pratapgarh assembly seats.

While 10 assembly seats were vacated after the sitting MLAs were elected to Lok Sabha, the MLA representing Ghosi seat, Phagu Chauhan, has been appointed Governor of Bihar.

By-election is not being held for Tundla seat as the matter is sub judice.
Of the seats where bypolls are being held, Rampur was held by Samajwadi Party an Jalalpur by Bahujan Samaj Party in the 2017 assembly elections. The remaining seats were won by the BJP.
Polling will be held on October 21 and counting of votes will be taken up on October 24.
