CCCI seeks Medical Device Park at Durg-Bhilai, Rajnandgaon

The Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCCI) on Tuesday urged Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel to establish a Medical Device Park at Durg-Bhilai and Rajnandgaon.

In a joint letter by CCCI President Prakash Sankhla and other office bearers, it was pointed out that during the Covid-19 pandemic the state had witnessed an acute shortage of medical equipment and accessories.

If a Medical Device Park is established at Durg-Bhilai and at Tadesara (Rajnandgaon), it would help meet the future needs, promote the concept of ‘Make in Chhattisgarh’ and also generate employment.

The letter states that at present maximum equipment are imported to India, If production is commenced locally, it will help reduce the prices.

The medical equipment and accessories include syringes, drips, implants, surgical equipment, MRI and Ultrasound machines, oxy-metres, surgical beds, CT-Scan, MRI equipment, dialysis machine, PPE kits, X-ray machines, operation theatre tables, ICU beds and more.

The raw material, mainly high-quality steel, is available in the state. At present, the medical device retail market is of Rs 70,000 crores. India is the fourth biggest market for medical devices.
