Raipur, Chhattisgarh: Farmers in Chhattisgarh are now uniting for the legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) on all crops. Chhattisgarh Kisan Mazdoor Mahasangh and MSP Guarantee Kisan Morcha held a conference in Raipur on Wednesday. In this, it was claimed that due to the non-availability of MSP, farmers across the country are suffering a loss of more than seven lakh crores every year. Without giving this guarantee, only loan waivers and subsidies will not improve the condition of farmers and agriculture.
President of MSP Guarantee Kisan Morcha and farmer leader Sardar V.M. Singh said the country’s leading farmer organizations have held continuous meetings in Delhi demanding a legal guarantee of minimum support price for all agricultural produce. During this, under a one-point program unanimously, the National MSP Guarantee Kisan Morcha has been formed. Now they have started a massive public campaign through seminars and conferences among farmer organizations and farmers across the country to make people aware.
Morcha’s Maharashtra state convenor Raju Shetty said, “Due to the non-availability of agricultural products to the farmers of the country at a remunerative price, there is a loss of about seven lakh crore rupees every year. Suffering from this continuous loss in agriculture, farmers are going bankrupt drowning in debt. Even committing suicide under compulsion.”
Shetty further said that the grant given in the name of fertilizers, seeds, irrigation, etc. is not enough to cure it. A loan waiver is also not a permanent solution. For this, the government should enact an efficient “MSP Guarantee Law” to provide respectable remunerative minimum support prices to every farmer for every crop, this is the only correct solution.
Farmer leaders told that this campaign has started in full swing in the whole country. On December 1, a big farmers’ meeting took place in Pune, Maharashtra. Farmers’ conferences were held in Uttarakhand on Monday. It happened in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday. A big meeting of farmers is going to be organized in Dehradun on 18th December as well. People from farmers’ organizations from all over the country are going to reach there as well.
