C’garh sees 10% wastage of Covid-19 vaccine: Singh Deo
There is an around 10 percent Covid-19 vaccine wastage in Chhattisgarh as one or two persons are not turning out on an average against 10 persons needed to be vaccinated from a single vial, Health Minister T.S. Singh Deo said on Wednesday.
Addressing the media here, Singh Deo said the Health Department is trying to increase the number of people who are getting vaccinated.
The target is 1.20 lakh people per day against which only 50,000-60,000 are turning up. There is a need to take up the number to 1 lakh, he said.
He said the number of vaccination sites would be increased based on availability of vaccine in the state.
He said Chhattisgarh has vaccine storage only for two days and a new lot of vaccine is expected soon.
The benefit of vaccination is that the risk of chances of death falls. Immunity can reach up to 100 percent. Research has proved that after vaccination, immunity develops within 6-8 weeks, he said.
Singh Deo denied the Central government was treating Chhattisgarh differently on the question of providing vaccine.
The production of vaccine is slower than the demand, he said.
