Chhattisgarh HC asks govt to revise ST list of SI recruitment 2011
BILASPUR: Chhattisgarh high court ordered to issue a revised list of ST female category and accommodate the petitioner, a woman candidate for the post of sub inspector, in the SI recruitment of 2011. HC also imposed a cost of Rs 25,000 on state police department for appointing a male ST candidate against a seat reserved for a ST female candidate.
According to sources, on December 17, 2011, Chhattisgarh police headquarters published an advertisement and invited applications for recruitment to 563 posts of SI. In this recruitment, 11 posts were reserved for females of ST category. Petitioner Kumari Durga Dhru also participated in this recruitment test.
After exams and the list of selected candidates were declared, a female candidate of ST category did not join. In her place, a male candidate of ST category was selected.
Petitioner Kumari Durga Dhru filed a petition challenging the appointment of the male candidate in Chhattisgarh high court.
The petitioner in her petition said that according to the rules of reservation for women 1997 in Chhattisgarh civil services, if a post of a reserved category candidate is vacant, then it should be filled only by the candidate in the waiting list of the same category. In this case this rule has been violated by giving recruitment to a male candidate in the female category. After the hearing, Chhattisgarh high court ordered the recruitment committee to issue a revised list of ST female category and to provide recruitment to the petitioner after verifying her name on the list. Along with this HC also imposed a cost of Rs 25,000 to the police department and ordered to pay this amount to the petitioner.
