‘We have challenges on that front…’: Rahul Dravid identifies key area for Team India to improve after T20I series defeat | Cricket News

West Indies beat India in the fifth T20 match to win the series 3-2, courtesy of an eight-wicket victory on Sunday.

India, which lost the first two games of the series in the Caribbean, chose to bat first in the fifth T20 and scored 165/9 at Central Broward Stadium. In reply, West Indies reached the target with 12 balls to spare.
Making an overall assessment of the tour, India head coach Rahul Dravid spoke to the media and said that sometimes it’s tough to run through formats. “We are pleased with the Test matches and ODI series. In T20, we did well to come back from 0-2 down but could not close down the series,” said Dravid.
Dravid also did not hesitate to admit that his team did make errors which cost them the series.
“In the first two games and the fifth T20I, we made a few makes along the way. We did not bat well as we could have. But it is a young and developing team, ” he observed.
“We wanted to try out the youngsters in this series and give them an opportunity. We also tried a few combinations, so there were a few positives in that aspect,” he said.
However, the Indian head coach also identified one key area where the men  in blue need to improve with the ODI  World Cup on the horizon.
“Regarding the squad we had in the Caribbean, we probably did not have the flexibility to change the combinations. But I think in the future, we can look at specific areas to get better – depth in the batting is one area we are trying to address. But we also do not want to weaken our bowling attack to ensure our batting goes bigger. We have challenges on that front, and we need to work on that,” he explained.
Dravid also praised India’s three debutants who made an impact on the tour. “Jaiswal showed his ability in the fourth game. Tilak Varma played with a lot of intent and fielded brilliantly and also showed that he can bowl a bit. Mukesh also debuted in all the formats, and his ability to bowl at the death stood out. These are really good positives from the series,” he concluded.
