CM gives consent to implement RDS scheme
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday gave in-principle consent for implementation of the Revamped Distribution Sector (RDS) scheme in the state. He sought additional time for payment of electricity subsidy.
He was attending a virtual meeting chaired by Union Power Minister Raj Kumar Singh, an official communication said.
He had a detailed discussion with the Minister regarding the implementation of the scheme in Chhattisgarh. Energy Ministers from Bihar, Gujarat, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa and Daman and Diu also attended.
Baghel supported the demand of the states to extend the time-limit for payment of electricity subsidy.
Besides the development of new power infrastructure under the scheme, action will be taken to upgrade and strengthen the existing infrastructure.
Under the scheme, installation of smart meters for every consumer, except the agriculture consumers, will be ensured.
The Central government has set December 31 as the deadline for submission of a detailed project report. The estimated cost of the scheme is Rs 9,600 crores, which is targeted to be completed by March 2025.
