CM reviews tribes’ cases withdrawal
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday held a review meeting of the Home Department (Police) on withdrawal of cases registered against persons belonging to Scheduled Tribes.
He held the meeting at his official residence office, an official communication said.
The seven-member committee constituted under Justice A K Patnaik had recommended withdrawal of the cases against 752 tribal accused in 632 cases. All these cases have been withdrawn.
Similarly, in cases registered before 2019, in 811 cases where local tribals have been arrested in Naxalite related cases, a total of 1,244 local tribal were benefited as their cases were withdrawn.
The Chief Minister asked the officials to expedite all other remaining cases for speedy disposal.
Baghel after coming to power in December 2018 decided to review police cases registered against tribal people in insurgency-hit areas, particularly Bastar.
He then constituted a seven-member review committee headed by Justice (Retd) A K Patnaik in March 2019.
