CM to open biogas plants in Gauthans

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel will inaugurate on October 2 an ambitious project of producing electricity from cow dung, illuminating the villages and Gauthans of Chhattisgarh.

Official sources said on Saturday that all preparations to generate power from cow dung have been completed in most Gauthans in the state.

On Saturday, Baghel will launch the project at Sikola Gauthan in Durg district, Bancharoda Gauthan in Raipur district and Adarsh Gauthan Rakhi in Bemetara district simultaneously, the sources said.

Now Gauthans will produce electricity from cow dung besides manufacturing organic manure, doubling the benefits and incomes of Gauthan Samitis and women Self Help Groups (SHGs).

Bio gas plants, scrubbers and generator sets have been set up in Gauthans to generate electricity.

Under Suraji Gaon Yojana, the Chhattisgarh Government has approved the construction of 10,112 Gauthans in the state for conservation and nourishment of livestock in villages.

Construction of 6,112 Gauthan have been completed and they are operational. So far, more than 51 lakh quintals of cow dung have been procured in Gauthans and in return Rs 102 crores have been paid to villagers and livestock holders.

Renewable energy produced from cow dung, which has a market value of Rs 8-10 per unit, will be made available to villagers at Rs 2.50-3.00. This will benefit the producers, Gauthan Samitis and women groups.
