Engineer from Naxalite epicentre Dantewada aces UPSC

RAIPUR: A civil service aspirant from Chhattisgarh’s Maoist-affected Dantewada district has secured 99th rank in the UPSC exam results, which were announced on Wednesday.

An alumnus of KPS Bhilai School, Namrata Jain got an engineering degree from Bhilai Institute of Technology. Her father Jhawarlal Jain is a businessman in Geedam town while her mother Kiran is a homemaker.

It was Namrata’s second attempt at the prestigious exam. After clearing the prelims, she undertook coaching for the interview at a centre run by the Dantewada district administration, which has been offering lessons for the civil services exam for about four years. Interviews for the civil services in March.

Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh, who is on a tour in Japan, sent a congratulatory message to Namrata, saying her success would inspire youth in all of Bastar-one of the most backward regions in the country on account of the pervasive Naxalite threat. “It is my wish that the youth of Bastar come forward and excel in national-level competitive examinations and serve in important positions. Namrata has marked a beginning,” he said.
