‘It’s a miracle he survived’: Brother of lone Air India crash survivor speaks out | World News

The brother of the lone survivor in the Air India crash near Ahmedabad has called his sibling’s escape a miracle, but said the family remains deeply concerned as they await news of another brother who was also on board.
Nayan Kumar Ramesh told reporters that his brother Vishwashkumar survived the crash and managed to video-call their father within moments of the accident. “He was in shock, alone, not sure how he got out,” Nayan said. “But he was alive—and that is nothing short of a miracle.”
Vishwashkumar and his brother Ajaz Ramesh were flying from India to London after visiting family in Gujarat. The flight crashed shortly after takeoff, and officials have confirmed only one survivor so far.

“Our parents are shaken,” Nayan said. “One son is alive, and we’re grateful—but we’re desperately waiting for news about Ajaz.”

At least 153 bodies have been recovered from the site so far, and authorities say the identification process is ongoing. The DGCA and Air India have launched a joint investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
In Leicester, where the Ramesh family lives, members of the local community have gathered at their home to offer support as the family anxiously waits for updates. “It’s been overwhelming the prayers, the presence, it means a lot,” Nayan added.
Air India and local authorities are continuing rescue and recovery operations, with more information expected to emerge in the coming hours.
