GST is a historic step: CM Raman Singh

RAIPUR: The state government commercial taxes department officials said Thursday Goods and Services Tax (GST) will be implemented from 1 July 2017, but TDS will not be included immediately. According to information available at the Divisional Deputy Commercial Tax, officials said if payments of goods and services exceed more than Rs Two lakh fifty thousand, the TDS had to be deducted.

But in the current scenario, this proposal had not been included. The date of implementation will be announced later. The officials said it is mandatory for the registration of State Government Departments for the deduction of TDS. The registration process will begin from 20 July 2017. This facility is available on GST network. GST Sewa Kendra had been established in every district. The representatives of various State Government departments can obtain information on phone or from the Sewa Kendras.

Marking the major step to be taken in the economic history of the country, GST implementation on July 1, 2017, Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh said: “The GST is a historic step in the economy of the country that amplifies the concept of one nation, one tax and one law. Our visionary Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been a harbinger of this historic change. GST will boost tax collections and economic growth, attract investors and modernize the economy. It will define treatment for e-commerce, logistics cost will go down, health sector and various industry bodies will be benefited and local manufacturing will be promoted. It will generate thousands of employment opportunities, particularly in the areas of taxation, accounting and data analysis. With the increased business activity and lowering of the overall prices of goods as the GST stabilizes in the country, farmers will reap numerous benefits. The human interface will be reduced under GST and signal the end of corruption and cut down red tape. It will give a major thrust to government’s Make in India initiative by ensuring that the goods manufactured are competitive in domestic as well as global market and further facilitate in achieving Sab Ka Saath Sab Ka Vikaas.
