‘Krishna Kunj’ to be set up in urban C’garh

Chhattisgarh is going to set up ‘Krishna Kunj’ in all urban areas to promote plantation of trees like banyan, peepal, kadamb and neem. The mega plantation drive will simultaneously start on Krishna Janmashtami this year.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced this at his ‘Bhent Mulaqat’ programme at Surajpur in Surguja division.

He instructed all District Collectors to immediately allocate at least one acre of land to the Forest Department for the tree plantation.

Baghel said India has an ancient tradition of worshipping trees like banyan, peepal, neem and kadamb. These trees have gained a place in the country’s cultural history because of their usefulness.

The rapid felling of trees in urban areas in the name of development has created a problem, he said.

Therefore, every citizen must preserve the precious heritage of trees. It’s crucial to plant and protect trees of medicinal importance in urban areas, he said.

The areas of the plantation will be named “Krishna Kunj”.
