Literacy linked to development: CM

Literacy is related to education and education is linked to development and progress. Everyone in the state should take a pledge to make the illiterate literate, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Wednesday.

He was virtually addressing the state-level webinar organized to mark the International Literacy Day. An official communication said that volunteer teachers across the state were felicitated on the occasion.

Baghel said it required a great deal of individual interest and collective efforts to make everyone literate. Public participation can lead to this. He urged people to become digitally literate.

He said Chhattisgarh is the first state where video and other learning applications on various subjects are being provided to the illiterates.

At the end of September, 2.5 lakh illiterate people of the state will appear in the ‘Maha-Pariksha’. After which, the New India Literacy Programme (Nav Bharat Literacy Abhiyan) will commence.
