Narva Mission Launched For Revival Of Rivulets

Raipur: Chhattisgarh government on Wednesday launched the ‘narva mission’ to revive and infuse life in the rivulets so that the rainwater is stored there throughout the year. The mission will be carried out in joint collaboration of state panchayat and rural developement department and forest department.

State public relations officials said that earlier the efforts were being made the departments individually but now a senior IAS officer and deputy chief secretary, Subrat Sahoo, would serve as a chairperson of the mission.

Officials said that under the programme,around 30,000 rivulets have been identified for recharge and for the procedure, proper structuring for stop dam, contour trench would be done. This will boost irrigation region and water supply would be easily available for agriculture as well as for horticulture.

Officials said that the earlier experiments on rivulets have proved to be successful even during summers and there has been significant rise in ground water. This is an extension of chief miner Bhupesh Baghel’s ambitious scheme ‘narva-Gharva-Ghurva-Badi’. The mission comprises of seven members who would lead the programme.
