SRINAGAR: Two Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla today in a joint operation by police and the army. A Pak spy was also arrested on Friday in Samba sector along the International Border.
Safeer Ahmad Bhat and and Farhaan Fayaz were part of Jaish terror module operating in Baramulla town and adjacent areas headed by a Pakistani terrorist operating by code name Khalid, a statement from the police said.
An AK rifle, other arms and ammunition were recovered from them. The security forces are investigating their role in the August 16 attack on an army convoy in which three security personnel were killed.
A massive cordon and search operation was launched by the security forces in north Kashmir’s Baramulla yesterday after reports that terrorists were hiding in the old city area.
Meanwhile, Pakistani spy Bodhraj was arrested from Samba on Friday. Two Pakistani SIM cards and a map showing the deployment of security forces were recovered from him, authorities said.
The arrest came on a day when, according to the Border Security Force or BSF, seven Pakistani Rangers were killed along the International Border in Hiranagar sector in Kathua district. Pakistan has denied any casualties.
The strike was in response to Pakistan’s targeting of BSF’s posts from across the border since Wednesday night.
A BSF constable named Gurnam Singh was hit by sniper fire on Friday morning in Kathua, which is about 90 km from Jammu. He was evacuated to Jammu while his colleagues provided cover with retaliatory firing at Pakistan. He is in critical condition at a Jammu hospital.
Hours after the incident, Pakistani Rangers violated the ceasefire again along the International Border in the RS Pura and Rajouri sector of Jammu district.
After 19 soldiers were killed at an army base in Uri in Kashmir last month, India crossed the Line of Control to target staging areas for terrorists.
The raids came after India launched a global campaign to diplomatically isolate Pakistan. Pakistan has responded by an escalation of cross-border firing. Multiple ceasefire violations have been reported along the LoC and the International Border since the strikes on September 29. Pakistan has denied the cross-border raids.
