Why before every big election?: Congress leader questions timing of Army’s attack on PoK terror camps
A couple of hours after Indian armed forces had reportedly bombed terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), Congress leader Akhilesh Singh on Sunday questioned the timing of attacks. He alleged that often before a big election, Army carries out attacks on Pakistan soil under Narendra Modi government. Singh was speaking ahead of Assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra which are being held today.
While speaking to media, Akhilesh Singh, a former MP from Bihar, said, “Whenever there is a big election, a pattern of surgical strike is visible in Narendra Modi’s government. Now the politics of this country will be played on surgical strikes. They want to divert people’s attention from real issues.”
On Sunday, Pakistani Army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation in order to assist the infiltration by terrorists into the Indian territory. In the firing, two Indian soldiers and a civilian were killed while three more civilians were also reported injured.
An Indian Army official said, “As a result, calibrated escalation of area weapons was undertaken by the Indian side in which terrorist launch pads and several Pakistan Army posts giving incidental protection to these launch pads and certain gun positions were hit.”
Earlier on Saturday, Indian Army had launched heavy artillery attacks on four launch pads situated inside PoK opposite the Tangdhar sector, killing six Pakistan Army soldiers and dozens of terrorists, said sources.
The attacks came just a day before Assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra. Polling is being held in both states in a single phase. In Haryana, 90 seats are up for grabs while Maharashtra elections are being held for 288 Assembly seats.
