World’s Indigenous People Day observed in C’garh
The International Day of the Worlds’ Indigenous People was observed in Chhattisgarh on Monday with over a dozen of programmes here and across the state to raise awareness and protect the rights of the indigenous population in the state.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel in a virtual programme launched distribution of forest resource right titles to the tribals residing in urban areas and in core areas of Udanti-Sitanagar Tiger Reserve. This is first time in the country the title has been awarded.
An official communiqué said Gram Sabhas of 700 villages across the state had been authorized to award the title.
Addressing a virtual programme, Baghel said it was the government’s priority to ensure the tribal right on forest resources.
In another programme, he unveiled a training module for integrated development of tribal areas, released a coffee table book on special backward tribes and a Tribal Atlas.
