Yogi Adityanath’s guru Baba Gorkahnath will be now part of UP school textbook
Children in Uttar Pradesh who study in government schools will be taught about Baba Goraknath among other eminent personalities from the next academic season. For the uninitiated, Baba Goraknath is the Nath sect diety who is worshipped by current Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath.
According to Hindustan Times report, UP CM Adityanath has asked Basic Shiksha Department to incorporate chapters on individuals who left a significant impact on the society but whose achievements haven’t been probably acknowledged in the annals of history. Gorakhpur has been the pocket borough of Yogi Adityanath for a long time, before he resigned from the seat at the time of becoming the CM of Uttar Pradesh.
However, BJP lost badly in the subsequent Lok Sabha by-election from Gorakhpur. The party would hope to win back its fortress in the next election and Baba Gorkahpur becoming part of textbooks is likely to give a positive message to the voters there, many of whom felt let down when someone who wasn’t part of the Math was given ticket in the byelection.
The textbooks which will be undergoing revisions are from Class 1 to class 8. Guru Goraknath’s chapter has been added to class 6 textbooks under the chap of great personalities. Other icons who have been now added to the books include Baba Gambhirnath, freedom fighter Bandhu Singh and Rani Avanti Bai.
Bandhu Singh was a freedom fighter who was publicly hanged at Gorakhpur in 1857. Already the books have been printed and nearly eight lakh copies have come to Gorakhpur. According to the report, the books are enabled with QR codes, so that the digital formats of the book can be accessed easily.
